Hypotheses made in class
(1) If we increase the temperature on a closed container, then the pressure will build up and explode.
(2) If we place a blown up balloon in a freezer, then the particles will be compact and cause the balloon to shrink.
Hypotheses (form me)
(1) Adding heat to water- At 1500 K it will explode but still the majority of water molecules will stay inside the pot.
(2) Adding heat to argon - from being at a temperature of 0 K they' ll be compact and at about 700 K it will explode no more particles will be inside of it
Observations from online Experiment
(1) Adding heat to water - At 102K you can see that water is a liquid because its particles are moving, but still they are together . Now it is at 0 K the molecules are barely moving and they are even more compact than before. At 8,600 K the pot exploded and most water molecules ''run away''. At 10,000 K there are no more molecules inside the pot and the cover has flown away, when the explosion happened all water molecules were all separated and were moving freely all inside the pot.
(2) Adding heat to argon - At 9 K the argon molecules are mostly compact together. Meanwhile heating, the particles are always moving faster and faster and from being all together and alone now are moving around. At 700 K the particles are like racing each other for exploding and going out. When it's 6000 K it is a total chaos all particles are moving and making your eyes dizzy. At 6185 K the top has blown off and argon particles and molecules are flowing away. 2200 K there are only 3 argon molecules left.
Extra Experiments
(1) Adding heat to water molecules and then take it away - My experiment is to add heat until 3300 K and then cool it down to 0 K. At the very beginning it was at 16 K and each time heating was raising the water molecules were always spinning and flying all over the place. Right now is cooling down to 1000 K. Every second are moving slower and rejoining together. At 27 K molecules are making a layer at the bottom of the pot. 0 K is affecting a lot the movement of molecules and it is now all freeze, not even moving 1 millimeter.
Conclusion
As you can see from this experiment you might think that two substances are the same or have mostly same types of reactions, but not always. In this online lab it showed you how different substances are by adding or taking off heat. From the observation I wrote there is a big difference from when the water and argon top blew off.
