Minerals and Non- Minerals

Hello in science we are now studying about minerals and here are some info.
There is one way of how you can identify minerals; they need to be:
  • SOLID
  • NATURALLY OCCURRING
  • INORGANIC
  • FIXED COMPOSITION
  • CRYSTAL FORM
When I mentioned solid it means it has a definite shape and volume. When I said that a mineral is naturally occurring I mean that minerals are formed by natural process. Also what I meant by inorganic i meant it comes from materials that are not living. Fixed Composition means it has always a certain elements in definite proportions. And last Crystal Form means that particles in a mineral have a pattern that repeats over and over,
Here are some examples telling you what solids are minerals or not.
  •  Quartz is a mineral because it has the S.N.I.F.C. properties
  •  Wood is not because it was once living
  •  Pearls are not a minerals because it is made by oysters, which is a living material
  •  Topaz is a mineral because it follows the S.N.I.F.C.
  •  Gold is a mineral because it has all the properties of the S.N.I.F.C rule.
